Bernard K Miller

Bernard K. "Bernie" Miller, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by his family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday January 7, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008 with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 6 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.

Bernard was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Merrill, Iowa, to Alfred and Nora (Bauerly) Miller. Bernie graduated from Liberty Township High School in 1943. He farmed with his dad in the Merrill area until enlisting in the U.S. Army National Guard in 1948. He received an honorable discharge as a corporal in 1952.

He married Mary Patricia "Pat" Krumwiede on Aug. 22, 1953, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. Bernie lived most of his life in Sioux City, but for a short time, did live in Clear Lake, Iowa, and Rapid City, S.D. He worked for Roe Dairy for several years and then worked for Armour & Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary "Pat" Miller of Sioux City; five children, Theresa Treinen and her husband, Jerry of Rapid City, S.D., David Miller and his wife, Kim of Sergeant Bluff, Gary Miller and his wife, Twyla of Rapid City, Kevin Miller and his wife, Ellen of Indianola, Iowa, and Nancy McClusky and her husband, Chris of Newcastle, Neb.; a sister, Marian Ahrendsen and her husband, Melvin of Le Mars, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Susan Catherine; and three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Brett, Joshua and Michael Miller, Joe, Chris and Matthew Treinen.

Memorials may be made in his name to Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign or Hospice of Siouxland.
