Alvina W. Miller

Alvina W. Miller, 102, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at the Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.

Alvina was born Feb. 13, 1906, in rural Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Karl and Elizabeth Fick. She grew up in the Mapleton, Iowa, area.

She was united in marriage on Sept. 30, 1925, to Emil Miller. They farmed in the Ute, Castana and Mapleton, Iowa, area until 1945, when they moved to Sioux City.

She was baptized at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton.

Survivors include a daughter, Freda Means of Mapleton, Iowa; a son and his wife, Gene and Shirley Miller of Treynor, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and five sons, Edwin, Leonard, Elmer, Arnold and Leo.
