Tony Michalsky, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at his residence.
Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with Chaplain Mike Inman officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with the family present after 5:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Mr. Michalsky was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph and Frances Michalsky. He attended Sioux City Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1942 and a gunner's mate on the USS Alabama. He was discharged in November 1945.
He married Lorraine Woods on Sept. 21, 1946, in Dakota City. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2002 in Sioux City. He was employed as a truck driver for Union Freightways, later merging into Pacific Intermountain Express for a total of 36 years.
He loved spending time in his garden. He was a long time member of the Teamsters Union.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Bruce and Mary Ann Michalsky of Akron, Iowa, and John and Cheryl Michalsky of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Robert McBride of Cleveland, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Robin McBride of Summerville, S.C., Bret Michalsky of Sergeant Bluff, TJ Jorgensen of Sioux City, Robert McBride, Amy and David Bundy of Austin, Minn., Briget and Jarrod Solomon of Sioux City and Mindee Jorgensen of Sioux City; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Betty Jean Jorgensen in 1987; three brothers, John and Joe Michalsky and Buddy Mook; and two sisters, Sophie DeLashmutt and Helen Werner.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
