SIOUX CITY -- Mary L. Meyers, 81, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at a local hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Whitfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sylvia Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mary was the daughter of Bill and Opal (Little) Parsons born on April 5, 1929, in Decatur, Neb.
She married Jerry Meyers on June 10, 1945, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Spencer, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1955. They were married for 59 years before Jerry passed away in 2004. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for Thompson Drug for many years.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing and vacationing in Okoboji and also Arizona in the winter months. Mary loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved watching baseball and was a Twins fan. Mary was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, where she was an active member for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the ABWA and the Sioux City Women's Club.
Mary is survived by four daughters, Sandra Stewart of Lincoln City, Ore., Pam Booe of Sioux City, Geri (Steve) Harlow of Mesa, Ariz., and Lori (Randy) McDermott of Salix, Iowa; one brother, Bill Parsons of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and one brother, Max.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Whitfield United Methodist Church.
