Ruby Arlene (Forre) Meyer, 78, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Ruby was born Aug. 22, 1930, in rural Newman Grove, Neb., the daughter of Gunder and Ingvalda (Hanson) Forre. She was baptized and confirmed at Shell Creek Lutheran Church. After graduating from Newman Grove High School, she attended Immanuel Lutheran School of Nursing in Omaha, graduating in 1951. She then worked as a registered nurse at Immanuel Hospital.
She married W. William "Bill" Meyer on Oct. 11, 1952, in Omaha. The couple moved to Albion, Neb., where she worked as a nurse for several more years. In 1960, they moved to Sioux City, where she helped her husband operate the family funeral home until their retirement in 1992.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bill; three children and their spouses, Mark and Deborah Meyer of Hoboken, N.J., Cindy and Mark Struve of Sioux City and Janel and Steven Skerl of Centerville, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Lillian and Claire Meyer, Jeffrey, Brian and David Struve and Zachary, Adam and Rachael Skerl; a sister and her husband, Jeannette and Les Mortensen of Portland, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Forre of Bellwood, Neb., and Phyllis Forre of Newman Grove, Neb.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five siblings, Lou and her husband, Milton Hassel, Opal Forre, Glenn Forre, LuJean and her husband, Herb Esterly and Sidney "Bob" Forre.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in her name to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Carmelite Nuns or Hospice of Siouxland.
