SIOUX CITY -- Laura S. "Annie" Meredith, 84, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Laura was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Simon Anthony and Philomena (Diekmann) Strehl. On May 25, 1956, she married Melvin Elmer Meredith in Miami, Okla. He died Jan. 21, 1975, in Sioux City. For 35 years, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a traffic operator and night manager.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Annie enjoyed reading, gardening and going out to eat at restaurants.

She is survived by her local family of four nieces, Suzanne and Steve Rodriguez of Sioux City, and their son, Austin Rodriguez; Jami and Carlyle Krause of Moville, Iowa, and their children, Eric Krause and his girlfriend, Maggie and Amanda Whittington and her husband, James; Amy Reinert of Sioux City, and her son, Jason Reinert and his wife, Margarite; Toni Duncan of Sioux City, and her children, Angela Duncan and her boyfriend, Daniel and Allisa and Allexa Johnson; three great-great-nieces; and one great-great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Lola Reinert and Edna Mae Strehl; and two brothers, Francis and William Strehl.
