Daniel E. "Danny" Meier, 26, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Indian Hill Nursing and Rehab Center following an eight-month illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Danny was born Oct. 26, 1981, in Lincoln, Neb., to Ronald L. and Jeanne (Coon) Meier. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in 2000.

He married Sheena Sanford on Feb. 1, 2006, in Sioux City. He had been employed by Interbake Foods.

Danny enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Sheena of Sioux City; two daughters, Alyssa and Aubrey Meier, both at home; his father, Ron Meier and his wife, Deb of Sioux City; two brothers, Randy Meier and James Meier, both of Sioux City; a stepbrother, Casey Vandekop of Salix, Iowa; two stepsisters, Alicia Ellington of Sioux City, and Leanne Hernandez of South Sioux City; paternal grandmother, Lois Meier of South Sioux City; maternal grandmother, Sharon Sonier of Sioux City; and maternal grandfather, Clifford Coon of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne; a brother, Richard; paternal grandfather, Donald Meier; and stepgrandfather, Henry Sonier.

Pallbearers will be James Meier, Casey Vandekop, Jason Stoos, Jim Massey, Clayton Bader and Josh Verschoor.

A memorial has been established in his name.
