WAYNE, Neb. -- Teri L. McLagan, 57, of Wayne passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at home, comforted by family following a courageous battle against cancer since 2003.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, with the Rev. Kim Alan Stover as officiant. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City following the service. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m, at the church in Wayne. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Teri was born on Oct. 7, 1952, in Sioux City to Vernon L. and Myrna L. (Dirks) Howard. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City with the Class of 1970. She married Steve McLagan on June 26, 1976, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and from this union four children were born.
She worked at Sunrise Manor until 1983, and then she started her own daycare business when the family moved to Wayne, Neb., in 1990. With her family's assistance, Teri was able to continue her passion of providing care to children until June of this year, even with her seven-year battle against cancer.
Teri enjoyed her cats and dogs, doing word-find puzzles, watching her squirrels and finches on her deck, listening to Yankees baseball daily on the radio, and in previous years, needlepoint work. She was faithful to her Lord, enjoying her membership to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, listening to gospel music and reading the Bible numerous times a day. Teri's love was limitless to her daycare children, and it was through providing care to these kids that she found her source of healing; however, she found her greatest joy in her husband and children, and continued the limitless love she shared by traveling to her children's sporting events and being a devoted mother and wife. Even select friends of Teri's children considered Teri as a second mother.
Teri is survived by her husband Steve McLagan; children Nicolle McLagan, Eric McLagan and Stefanie McLagan, all of Wayne; mother Myrna Howard of Sioux City; sisters Jean Bickford of Beloit, Wis., Gail (Richard) Goeden of Wendell, Idaho, and Debra (Frank) Kincaid of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brothers Dennis (Sharon) Howard of Pierson, Iowa, Gary (Laura) Howard, Marlin "Bob" (Claudyne) Howard and Delvin (Lonnel) Howard, all of Sioux City, and Marlo Howard of Ida Grove, Iowa; 15 nieces and nine nephews.
Teri was preceded in death by her father; daughter Jan Marie McLagan; nephew Jacob V. Howard; sister-in-law Joyce Howard; nephew Shad Howard; and brother-in-law Richard Bickford.
