Dorothy May McGinty

November 22, 1928 — October 8, 2008

Dorothy May McGinty, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend R. Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on November 22, 1928 in Sioux City to James H. and Anna Estella May (Collier) Short Sr. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. Dorothy began working at Cutahay Packing House after high school.

Dorothy married John Charles McGinty on July 16, 1949, in Sioux City. After their marriage she worked at Younker-Martin, later she became a foster parent. Dorothy then began working at the Sioux City Schools as a teachers aid for many years and retired from that position.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years; she was also a member of Esther Bacon Circle. She also enjoyed playing bridge. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family including her dogs very much.

She is survived by her children, Scott Eugene McGinty of Omaha, NE, Lynn Marie Clayborne and Julie May Walton and husband Percy all of Sioux City, IA, 11 grandchildren, Damon (Tiffany) Clayborne, Atheana Clayborne, Alisha (Nazar) Clayborne Hamid, Porsha Clayborne, Kyle (Lindsey) McGinty, Chesney McGinty, Kache (Shannon) Houck, Shaquille McGinty, Edmond McGinty, Taiava Walton, Precious Walton, 10 great grandchildren, Deion, Kobe, Kason, Aubrianna, Jazlynn, Trevon, Julian, Maia, Darion and Lucian, 4 sisters-in-law, Mary Short and Ida May Borschuk and husband Phillip, Mary Oostenbrug and husband Chuck, Beverly Waechter and husband Thomas, 1 brother-in-law, Richard McGinty and wife Karen, and 1 nephew James Short Jr. and wife Candy, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband John on April 1, 2002 and a brother, James Short.
