SIOUX CITY -- Frances Ann (Fitzpatrick) McDermott, 93, of Sioux City passed from this life on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 400 E. Randolph St., Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Terry A. Roder officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a 4 p.m. rosary by Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City.

Frances was born on July 14, 1916, to Henry and Ellen (Conley) Fitzpatrick in Anthon. She lived in Anthon for 40 years before relocating to Sioux City. She lived in Sioux City for 53 years. She retired from St. Joseph/Mercy Health Center after working there for more than 20 years. Her service to the hospital extended far beyond her employment, with years of volunteering and blood donation.

She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family. Above all, she valued her family and her faith. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and an avid supporter of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Sioux City, Iowa.

She is survived by a son, James McDermott; a daughter, Joanne Wickham and son-in-law, Paul Wickham; a son, Lawrence McDermott and daughter-in-law, Carol McDermott; grandchildren, Dan McDermott, Mike McDermott, Julie (Bousquet) Beatty, Mark McDermott, Tim McDermott, Amy (McDermott) Haas, Sherry McDermott, Jeremy Wickham, Jamie Wickham and Jennifer Wickham. She is also survived by granddaughters-in-law, Sarah McDermott, Laura McDermott, Kathleen McDermott, Lindsey (Bergh) McDermott and Catherine (Wilson) Wickham as well as grandsons-in-law, Mike Beatty and Craig Ilaas. Survivors also include a niece, Patty (Fitzpatrick) Harris; a nephew, Joe Fitzpatrick; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard McDermott; sibling, Jim Fitzpatrick; sister-in-law, Betty Fitzpatrick; and daughters-in-law, Joyce McDermott and Diana McDermott.
