James Edward McClary, 46, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Jim was born Jan. 23, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Frances (Martineck) McClary. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He graduated from West High School in 1978, where he served as class president. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1982, with a degree in communications. He received a master's degree in counseling from Wayne State College.He married Cynthia A. Miller on Sept. 7, 1990, in Mason City, Iowa. He was the past director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Sioux City. Previously, he was employed at Western Iowa Tech Community College in student affairs.
He enjoyed all sports and was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins. When attending games, he loved to eat hot dogs and ballpark food. He enjoyed collecting all types of baseball memorabilia. He also was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He had a love of life and never met a stranger. He had a contagious laugh and loved to be around family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy of Sioux City; his father, Robert McClary of Sioux City; seven brothers and sisters and spouses, Ginger and Howard Martin of Anthon, Iowa, Pamela and Larry Sawyer of Sioux City, Chuck and Melinda McClary of Sioux City, Robert and Cathy McClary of Sioux City, Teresa and John Bell of Houston, Texas, Candace and Kevin Sweeney of Columbus, Ohio, and Scott McClary of Sioux City; his mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Tom Miller of Clear Lake, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Cathy Miller of Ames, Iowa, and Beth and Scott Christensen of Rockford, Ill.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a cat, Emma.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances.
Pallbearers will be Nick Miller, Ross Martin, Chris Sawyer, Dylan McClary, Matt Bell, Clayton Bell and John McClary.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Latham Park.
