Charles "Chuck" Maurer, 74, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at his home, comforted by family.
Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Roger Madden officiating. Visitation will begin 4 p.m., with the family present at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to Hospice of Siouxland.
Chuck was born in Sioux City on April 25, 1934, to Lloyd and Evelyn (Patterson) Maurer. He attended Sioux City Schools, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1952. Chuck joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1952 until 1956, being a veteran of the Korean War. He then joined the Iowa Air National Guard as an air technician from 1958 until 1964. Chuck worked as a salesman with X-L Foods for 21 years and then with Braunger's Food for 19 years. He joined the Air National Guard again as a part-time guardsman in 1972 and retired in 1994 as a master sergeant with 32 years of military duty.
Chuck married Carolee Meek on July 1, 1955, in West Palm Beach, Fla., his beloved bride for 53 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, enjoyed flying with his private pilot's license, enjoyed playing golf and visiting with his many friends.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Carolee; a daughter, Lauri Davis of Minneapolis, Minn., and her two children, Alex of Montreal, Canada, and Kaitlin Davis of Minneapolis; a son, Steven Maurer and his wife, Stephanie of Sioux City, and their two children, Danielle and Cory, both of Sioux City; and a sister, Maxine Behrens and her husband, Malcom, their three boys and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
