Lloyd A. Martinsen

October 31, 1927 — February 16, 2008

Lloyd A. Martinsen, 80, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by his family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Concordia Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth A. Schmidt officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mr. Martinsen was born Oct. 31, 1927, in rural Ponca, Neb., the son of Gabe and Bertha (Wendte) Martinsen. He graduated from Newcastle (Neb.) High School.

He married Edna Davis on March 30, 1951, in Dakota City. He was employed with the city of Sioux City as a supervisor for 30 years.

He loved gardening, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very outgoing and always had a joke for everyone. He was a very kind and giving person and showed this to the very end as he was a tissue and bone donor. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

He was survived by his wife, Edna; four daughters, Nancy Smith of Sioux City, JoEllen and her husband, Jim O'Connor of Sioux City, Elaine and her husband, Tim Smith of Sioux City and Karen and her husband, Ron Lewon of Bronson, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Martinsen of Whiting, Iowa, Dean Martinsen of Hawarden, Iowa, and Max Martinsen of Cherokee, Iowa; and two sisters, Donna Andersen of South Sioux City and Elsie Lund of Newcastle, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Harder; and two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Martinsen.
