Wesley Duane Martin Sr., 50, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend of Sioux City passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at his residence surrounded by family and friends after an 18 month battle with cancer. Funeral services for Wesley will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Crescent Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in the Logan Park Cemetery.
Wesley was born on January 7, 1959 in Sioux City to Wallace D. and Beverly (Whitead) Martin. He graduated from West High School and attended trade school for heating and air conditioning. Wesley was married to Lorna J. Buehlmann on October 23, 1980 in Sioux City. He was a life long resident of Sioux City until 1986 when he moved to Kansas City, MO returning back home to Sioux City in 1998. He was employed with 21st Century grains in Sioux City working as a operator in the coated oat facility. He was also employed by Sue Bee Honey Association. Wesley enjoyed volunteering his time to the Boy Scouts Troop #111 of which his son Michael was a member of and Support Siouxland Soldiers. Some of Wesleys favorite things to do were golfing, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs! Even though they didnt always win, he always cheered on his Chiefs. He was a very caring, loving and hard working man for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 29 years Lorna J. Martin of Sioux City; his 3 sons SPC Wesley Duane (Emily) Martin Jr. of Manhattan, KS; Wallace Dustin Jene (Amy) Martin of Sioux City; and Michael Justin Joe Martin of Sioux City; 2 grandchildren Caiden Wallace and Madison Rose Martin; mother Beverly Martin of Sioux City; mother-in-law Helen Buehlmann of Sioux City; siblings Dianna Martin; Dan Martin; Kathy Martin; Rose Castaneda; David Buehlamnn; Dori Scott; and James Huehlmann; and aunts Pat Odom and Evelyn Klagge. He was preceded in death by his father Wallace D. Martin, and step mother Fern Martin.
Pallbearers will be his brother Dan Martin, Brother-In-Laws David Buehlmann, James Buehlmann, Roberto Castaneda, and Friend Richard Hamm.
In lieu of flowers, Wesley would like donations to his sons Boy Scout Troop #111 or to Support Siouxland Soldiers. Wesley was well loved by his family and friends, he will be missed but we know his pain is now gone and he is walking with the angels.
