Kristina L. "Kris" Martin, 51, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at her home from natural causes.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Whitfield United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Michelle Williamson and Charles Wolff officiating. Private family graveside services will be held in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Kris was born Nov. 14, 1956, in Long Beach, Calif. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from West High School in 1974. She attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, for a year. She then enlisted and served seven years in the U.S. Army, where she specialized in cartography.

Kris worked at a variety of businesses. She was known for her caring, compassionate nature as she was always watching out for the older person. Her legacy continues through her gift of life to the Iowa Donor Network.

She attended both Riverside Lutheran Church and Whitfield United Methodist Church. Kris loved nature, especially hiking, camping and collecting anything with wolves on it.

Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Ann Martin at home; a brother, Michael Martin of Menomonie, Wis.; Jessica's godparents, Dick and Trudy Grover of Sioux City; half-brothers, John, Jerry and Mark; and half-sisters, Vivian and Julie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bernice (Olsen) Martin; a brother, Robert A. Martin; a half-sister, Valerie; and a half-brother, Mike.

Memorials may be made in her name to Whitfield Methodist Church, Riverside Lutheran Church or to her daughter, Jessica's education needs.
