Kenneth "Kenny" Martensen, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a battle with cancer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 1111 Morningside Avenue, with the Rev. Don Wood, Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Kenny was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Inwood, Iowa, the son of Bernard "Ben" and Sarah (Lien) Martensen. He was baptized at Old North Country Church in Inwood. He was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City. In 1954, he enlisted in the Corps of Engineers in the U.S. Army in Korea, serving 16 months.He married Lila L. (Menard) Quinn on June 28, 1978, in Dakota City. He worked for Russell Miller Peavy Grain Company for 18 years. Later, he worked 22 years driving a truck for Marx Truck Lines, retiring in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Lila; two sons, Mike Martensen of San Antonio, Texas, and Kevin Martensen and his wife, Bobbi of Kingsley, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Monica Mullins of Sioux City, Shelley Gillis and her husband, Scott of Burlington, Iowa, and Valerie Thornton and her husband, Lonnie of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; a sister, Emma Cameron of Bend, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Melvin Martensen and Bruce Martensen and his wife, Corinne; and a stepdaughter, Rhonda Knapp.
Casket Bearers will be Scott Quinn, Scott Gillis, Shawn Mullins, Kirk Lien, Shane Mullins and Todd Lien. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Siouxland.
