SIOUX CITY -- Shirley A. Marshall, 70, of Sioux City passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Private graveside services will be in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Shirley would like a colorful celebration of life, so wear your colors to the funeral.

Shirley was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Rock Valley, the daughter of John Henry and Agnes (De Bruin) Van Sloten.

Shirley married Paul Jerome Marshall on Sept. 16, 1961. He preceded her in death in 1999. Shirley worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block from 1970 until the present.

She enjoyed camping, bluegrass music festivals and going to auctions with her son. She was an avid reader and loved to watch movies. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and participated in Martha Circle. She also made time for her Soul Sisters lunch group.

Survivors include her mother, Agnes Van Sloten of Rock Valley; a son, Mark and his wife, Amy Marshall of Sioux City; a daughter, Marland Winter of Hubbard, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jesse Marshall, Jeremy Marshall, Stephanie Marshall, Matthew Winter and Melissa Winter; four great-grandchildren, Lillie Hanson, Evelyn Marshall, Niya Marshall, and Sienna Marshall; three sisters, Maretta Budden, Malores Roozing and Nora Slykhuis; and a brother, Greg Van Sloten.

She was preceded in death by her father, John; her husband, Paul; and a sister, Sharon Nelson.
