Dr Steven Elwin Marsh

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. -- Dr. Steven Elwin Marsh, 63, of Dakota Dunes passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Dr. Steven Elwin Marsh was born March 22, 1947, in Chicago, the son of Elwin and Janice (Thompson) Marsh. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1965. He attended the University of Iowa and Morningside College. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1971 with his doctorate of optometry. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973. After returning from the service, he went into practice with his father at Sioux City Optometric Center PC in Sioux City, where he served his patients since 1973.

He married Nancy Fugleberg on Jan. 2, 1981, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Dr. Marsh was a member of the Iowa Optometrists Association, American Optometrists Association and the Heart of America Contact Lens Association. He also was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. In his free time, he loved to read, play cards, snow ski and especially golf. One of his fondest memories was caddying for Arnold Palmer during an exhibition at Green Valley.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Marsh of Dakota Dunes; his mother, Janice Marsh of Sun City West, Ariz.; a daughter, Jennifer Marsh Pavlik and her husband, Brian of Springfield, Va.; a stepdaughter, Kay Lindquist of Austin, Texas; a stepson, Slade Lindquist and his wife, Jody of Omaha; grandchildren, Zoe and Zachary Lindquist; a brother, Rick Marsh and his wife, Jane of Poland, Maine; a sister, Debbie Reif and her husband, Douglas of Bridgeport, W.V.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elwin Marsh.
