Geraldine C. Mahr, 91, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at a local nursing home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.). A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2008, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Pastor Dean Sundman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Geraldine was born on January 19, 1917 in the Viborg and Hurley, South Dakota area to George and Alma (Rasmussen) Jorgensen. Geraldine grew up in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School in 1935. She then attended business school in Sioux City.
Geraldine married Raymond Mahr on February 19, 1941, in Sioux City. She was a devoted wife and mother to her 5 children.
Geraldine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for nearly 75 years, where she was in the church choir, and Altar Guild. She was one of the founding members of the Big Sioux Alzheimers Chapter Association, American Legion Auxiliary, a former member of the Firefighters Auxiliary. Geraldine also volunteered at Goodwill for nearly 10 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking and going on family vacations. Geraldine loved spending time with her family and friends.
Geraldine is survived by her children, Dan Mahr and wife Terry of Topeka, KS, Bob Mahr and wife Charmin of Sioux City, IA, Richard Mahr and wife Deb of Bradenton, FL, Janine Wilton and husband Paul of Sioux City, IA, and Jerald Mahr and wife Christy of Sioux City, IA, 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray on February 19, 1999, 2 infant daughters and a grandson Christopher Mahr.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to Hospice of Siouxland or to the Alzheimers Association.
