Barbara R. Magoun, 80, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Al Hohl officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Visitation with the family will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Barb was born June 9, 1928, in Sioux City. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1946. She attended and graduated from Morningside College and the University of Kansas.

She was united in marriage to Skip Magoun of Sioux City in 1952. She worked for the Y.M.C.A. for two years and later volunteered in student services at Morningside College. She then became a part-time employee, loving every minute. She became a member of the Morningside College Board of Trustees. She retired from student services after 19 years.

Other community activities she greatly enjoyed were Goodwill, president of the church council book clubs, school committees and instructing children at the Sanford Center.

Undoubtedly, her most treasured moments were raising her three daughters and doing things for and with her five grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Skip Magoun; three daughters, Molly and Bill Fisher of Tulsa, Okla., Laurie and Jim Hopkins of Midlothian, Va., and Barbie and Kevin Knepper of Sioux City; and her grandchildren, Jamie Fisher, Callie and Sam Hopkins and Laura and Kate Knepper.

Memorials may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, the Parkinson Research Foundation, First Congregational Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
