Ethel L. Lumsden

SIOUX CITY -- Ethel L. Lumsden, 75, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Speidel of Westlawn Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ethel L. Lumsden was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Bartlett Neb., the daughter of Oren E. and Viola (Kellogg) Hopkins. She graduated from high school and attended teacher's college.

She married Merlyn Treft on June 14, 1953, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1990. She later married J.D. Lumsden on Sept. 1, 1991, in West Monroe, La. She was employed at Carl Anderson and ACE Dist. as an office clerk.

In her free time, she loved to sew and spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing genealogy and supplying rock displays for her children's classrooms. She was a past member of Riverside Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eagle's Club in South Sioux City.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Treft and his wife, Carol and Dave Treft and his wife, Terri, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Jodi Hanshaw and her husband, Paul, Craig Kennedy, Rob Treft and his wife, Heather, Tim Treft, Tracy Treft and her special friend, Billy Barnett, Scott Treft and his wife, Sarah and Curtis Treft; four great-grandkids, Drew, Alex, Owen and Isabelle; and two brothers, Evan Hopkins of Yulee, Fla., and Eldon Hopkins and his wife, Carol of Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and twin infant daughters, Pamela and Patricia.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
