John Lucas

April 21, 1918 — March 11, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- John "Jack" Lucas, 91, of Sioux City fell asleep in death on March 11, 2010.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4130 War Eagle Drive, in Sioux City, with the Elder Clifford Mehrer officiating.

Jack Lucas was born April 21, 1918, in Alton, Iowa, to Herbert and Grace (Vrieze) Lucas.

He married Dorothy VandeMheen of Alton on March 31, 1945, in Sioux City. He graduated from a Bible Missionary School in New York state along with his wife. They served as traveling ministers from 1951 to 1955. They moved to Sioux City in 1955, where he worked in the construction business until he retired.

He was very active in the West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he served as an elder/minister for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Deborah and her husband, Jose Loza of Sioux City; a son, John and his wife, Tharcia of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, James and his wife, Tonya and their three children, Ellie, Jessica and Shane, all of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert "Bob" Lucas; and a sister, Dorothy Jansma.
