Marguerite V. Lonseth

Marguerite V. Lonseth, 95, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 18, 2007, at Sunrise Retirement Community following an extended illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Marguerite was born May 30, 1911, in Murdo, S.D., the daughter of John R. and Margaret (Boland) McLain. She moved with her family to Sioux City at the age of five. She graduated from Central High School in 1929.

She married Edward O. Lonseth on Aug. 14, 1937, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. Marguerite was a secretary with Buell & Winter Architects at one time. Later, she was a secretary at North Junior High, Herbert Hoover Middle School, and more recently, the board of education. She retired in 1976. Ed preceded Marguerite in death on April 7, 1989, in Sioux City.

She had been a member of Pi Omega Mu Sorority since 1929. She was a past member of Sioux City Women's Club, American Business Women's Association and Sioux City Secretaries Association. Marguerite enjoyed card playing, homemaking, her Chicago Cubs and most of all, being with her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Patricia "Pat" Halseth of Aurora, Colo. and Lauri Van Norman and her husband, Brian of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Cindi Trowbridge and her husband, David, Jennie Mayer and her husband, Dan, Cathy Rakes and her husband, Matt and Rachel Van Norman, all of Colorado, Emily Van Norman of Omaha and Katie Van Norman of Iowa City, Iowa; and a great-grandson, Lucas Mayer.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Fitzpatrick; and an infant brother, John McLain.

She will be greatly missed.
