SIOUX CITY -- Robert E. "Bob" Lewis, 79, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bob was born May 21, 1929, in rural Jefferson, S.D., the son of Charles and Alma (Covey) Lewis. He grew up in the Jefferson area and attended country school. He graduated from Jefferson High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from August 1951 to August 1953, with 13 months in Korea.
He married Donna M. Schumacher on Feb. 14, 1954, in Sioux City. He was a machinist and foreman of the machinist's group at Prince Manufacturing for 28 years. He retired in 1989.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Sioux City; four children and spouses, Michael Lewis of Sioux City, Rochele and Phil Corio of Jefferson, S.D., Lynette and Rick Rockwell of Jefferson and Tim and Susan Lewis of Casselberry, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, Walter and Maude Lewis of Salinas, Calif., and John and Lorraine Lewis of Jefferson; a sister, Marie Vandever of Mitchell, S.D.; 13 grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Cleveland, Nicholas Lewis, Vickie Corio, Janet Corio, Brent Corio, Wendi Crandell, Brian Rockwell, Dana Rockwell, Christopher Lewis, Danielle Lewis, Janna Lewis, Natalie Hutcherson and Jessica Hutcherson; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William C., Samuel and Harold; and a sister, Ellen McCormick.
