Jerry Dean Lewis, 74, of Sioux City went to heaven on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at Indian Hills Hospice Unit.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Lo Van officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jerry was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Sioux City, the son of Everett B. and Nellie (McNamara) Lewis. On June 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joan M. Rembe in Sioux City. For 34 years, he was employed by I-Go Van & Storage Company. After his retirement, he was a bus driver for the Sioux City Community Schools. He was also a licensed Realtor.

Jerry was a lifetime member of Morningside Lutheran Church, the Noon Lions Club and Breakfast Leaders. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and camping. He also liked to work on boats, clocks and steam engines. Jerry had a special affection for his cats.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; three children, Jeffrey Dean Lewis of Bullhead City, Ariz., Jean Lewis Tronson and her husband, Steve of Goodyear, Ariz., and James Charles Lewis and his wife, Julie of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mandy Juedes, Jeremiah Tronson and Mindy, Melissa Reeder and her husband, Jeff, Tiffany Gordon and her husband, Shane and Melanie Lewis; and 10 great-grandchildren, Theodore, Sarah, Rayven, Caleb, Jonah, Isabella, Lawrence, Jacob, Simone and Jose.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James A. Lewis.

Honorary pallbearers will be his "great-grandies."

Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland or Morningside Lutheran Church.
