Dick was born on August 13, 1935 in Sioux City to Richard B. and Mary Isabelle (Fitzgibbons) Lennon. He graduated from Heelan High School and attended Regis College in Denver, CO and Iowa State University. Dick served his country in the US Marines. He was married to Kathleen (Kathy) Lucas on July 13, 1968 in Des Moines, IA.
From 1972-1978 Dick served as the Director of Siouxland Council on Alcoholism. He later worked for 20 years as the Employee Assistance Program Director for MidAmerican Energy. Following retirement from MidAmerican, Dick owned and operated Factory Direct Mattress Sales in Sioux City. For the past year he has worked part time for Hospice of Siouxland.
Dick was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a board member of Jackson Recovery Center, past member of Siouxland Cares, and a friend of Bill W. His family and friends will remember him for his love of fishing; watching Heelan football games; his help and caring for others; but most of all for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Dick will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched and his memory will live on in their hearts forever.
Dick is survived by his wife, Kathy Lennon of Sioux City; six children, Lisa Langel-Cordes (Dan Cordes) of Cedar Falls; Lance (Sam) Lennon of Fort Dodge; Chris (Jen) Lennon of West Des Moines; David (Ashlee Stevens) Lennon of Terra Haut, IN; Stephen (Valerie) Lennon of Emerson, NE; and Katie Lennon of Denver, CO; 11 grandchildren; 4 siblings Sally Deaton; Michael Lennon; Eileen (Charlie) Prochello; and Robert (Dee) Lennon. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
