David A. Lee, 52, of Sioux City died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his residence with his family by his side, following a very courageous 20-month battle with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday January 19, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Catie Newman of Salix Community United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2008 with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
David A. Lee was born Aug. 21, 1955, in Denison, Iowa, to Ralph and Ramona (Sturtevant) Lee. He lived in the Denison area until moving with his family to Sioux City in 1966. He attended East High School.
He was united in marriage to Maureen Jenness on May 27, 1978, in Sanborn, Iowa. To this marriage three children were born, Matthew, Melinda and Joshua. He worked for various long haul trucking companies before being employed as a local driver with the Sioux City Foundry. He thoroughly enjoyed being a delivery driver for The Little Welding Store. He had great co-workers and enjoyed the friendship with the customers on his route.
He enjoyed making wood cabinetry, shelves, quilt racks, etc., which led to his business Dave's Woodcrafts, in which he specialized in custom orders along with stock items that were sold in various locations in the Sioux City area and southeastern Iowa. He enjoyed the contact with various customers and other crafters throughout the area.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, archery and anything outdoors. He took extreme pride in his 1954 Chevy that he had restored along with the help of his youngest son, Josh. He enjoyed entering it in car shows, driving it to work and just showing it off. He enjoyed family reunions, especially the ones he could host in recent years at the cabin on McCook Lake. But most of all, he enjoyed time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.
He will always be remembered for his irreplaceable special one-man-show chef act for the Sunday morning breakfast buffets, when all the children and grandchildren came home. He will be remembered by his children for his famous saying of, "What you are looking for is in plain sight, when viewed from the proper angle."
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Maureen of Sioux City; sons, Matthew Lee and his wife, Traci of Colfax, Iowa, and Joshua Lee of Sioux City; daughter, Melinda and her husband, Jeremiah Schoenherr of Sioux City; granddaughters, Makenzie Schoenherr, Emily Schoenherr; grandsons, Taydom Schoenherr and Aden Lee; a family friend, Kirk Franco his fiancee, Michelle Hurd and their sons, Conner and Evan; his mother, Ramona Lee of Sioux City; sisters, Irene and Earl Blackford of Sioux City and Marjorie Lee of Newcastle, Neb.; a brother, Dale Lee and his girlfriend, Kay Moriston of Sioux City; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph K. Lee.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gerald Hagin, Dr. Kenneth McCalla and Hospice for the excellent care during this difficult time.
