Leona M. Larson, 91, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Leona was born Feb. 24, 1915, in rural Le Mars, Iowa, to Tom and Minnie (Marienau) Petersen. She attended rural Plymouth County schools. She was baptized and confirmed a Lutheran. As a young lady, she moved to Sioux City with her family.
She married Einer "Ted" Larson on Dec. 31, 1944, in Sioux City. Ted passed away in September of 1994. Leona worked at various Sioux City businesses and then stayed home to raise her daughter. She later returned to work again, retiring from Security National Bank in 1980.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Leona was deeply loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Gandy of rural Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Edna Petersen of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Viola Newman; and three brothers, Clarence and Kenneth Petersen and Edwin Petersen at one year of age.
