Carl J. Larson, 75, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2006 from 3-8 pm. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Monday September 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Lee Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carl was born August 2, 1931 to Peter and Lena (Mondson) Larson in Correll, MN. He grew up and attended school in Milbank, SD. Carl enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1947. He served in Hawaii, Guam, and two times in Germany. While in Germany he met and married the love of his life Renate Edelmann on January 15, 1955 in Heilbronn, Germany. He served two tours during the Korean Conflict and one tour during Vietnam. Carl also served as an advisor to the Army Reserves in Davenport, IA: and Sheboygan, WI: He retired from the Army in November of 1969 after 21 years of service. After his discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Sioux City and have been here since. Carl worked at Wells Fargo for a short time and also at Johnson Hardware. He also worked at Pecaut Equipment where he retired after 14 years. Carl was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 828 in Davenport, IA.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Renate Larson of Sioux City, one son Robert Larson and his wife Marian of Sioux City and their children Deborah and Daniel both of Sioux City. One daughter Linda Hoffman and husband Gene of Grand Island, NE: and their children Matthew and Brian Hoffman also of Grand Island, NE: One sister Mabel Lindahl of Brookings, SD and one brother John Larson of Colorado, and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Edward, Odin (Butch), Leonard and Raymond Larson. 5 sisters Florence Cardwell, Betty Bair, Mildred Bixler, Helen Corsey, Millie Larson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Larson, Daniel Larson, Brian Hoffman, Matthew Hoffman, Lonnie Bair, Duane Bair, Richard Mount, & Larry Blair.
