SIOUX CITY -- Arnold F. Larsen, 76, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Very Revs. Paul Hodge and Sava Leida officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Arnold was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Redfield, S.D., to Caryl and Nora (Hamilton) Larsen. He grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. Following the service, he graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D.

He married Jacqueline Porter on Dec. 27, 1959, in Miller, S.D. Arnold taught in elementary schools in Edgemont, S.D., Peerles, Mont., and Inwood, Iowa, before coming to Sioux City in 1968. In Sioux City, Arnold taught at Grant, Smith and Washington Elementary Schools. Following his retirement, he was active in the Missing and Exploited Children's Organization.

He was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church and the Men's Club. He was also a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline of Sioux City; his two adopted children, a son, Dr. Terry Larsen and his wife, Rebecca of Omaha, and a daughter, Jean Ellington and her husband, Chris of Sioux City; a brother, C. George Larsen of Redfield, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Lavina Porter of Rapid City, S.D.; and three grandchildren, Ainsley, Michelle and Holden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Lowell Porter; a sister-in-law, Verlyn Larsen; and his mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Ella Porter.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Terry Larsen, Ron Carlson, Robert Sandison, Randy Harmon, Phil Stevens, Jay Dorschner, Don Copas and Paul Lammers.
