Leona M. Langendorfer

April 3, 1914 — August 5, 2006

Leona M. Langendorfer, 92, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Leona was born April 3, 1914, in Soldier, Iowa, to Hans and Anna (Bramson) Berg. She graduated from Soldier High School and attended teaching school in Le Mars, Iowa.

She married J. Lester Langendorfer on Feb. 1, 1941, in Gary, Ind. He passed away on Nov. 6, 1999, in Whiting. Leona was a homemaker and taught school prior to marriage and farmed with her husband near Soldier until 1965.

She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where she was active in Women's Circle and Quilters Group. Leona enjoyed quilting, sewing, fishing, flowers and baking. She liked making quilts for family and missions. She especially enjoyed her family time.

Survivors include a son, Paul and his wife, Vicky Langendorfer of Greenville, S.C.; three daughters and their husbands, Marjorie and Jorgen Johnson of Bradenton, Fla., June and John Small of Decatur, Neb. and Nina and Elmer Vondrak of Hinton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers.

Memorials may be made in Leona's name to Morningside Lutheran Church and Pleasant View Care Center.
