Richard A. LaCroix

Richard A. LaCroix, 93, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Salix, Iowa, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5:30 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Richard was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Salix, Iowa, to Richard C. and Alma (Levasseur) LaCroix. He grew up in the Salix area and attended St. Joseph School in Salix. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Wilma D. Daniel on Nov. 18, 1935 in Sioux City. They had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before Wilma died Nov. 25, 2005. After serving in the Navy, Rich was a steeplejack worker and then farmed in the Bronson area for eight years. He then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion of Sergeant Bluff.

Survivors include a son, Bill LaCroix and his wife, Sue of Sioux City; two daughters, Kay Mesz and her husband, Howard and Connie Schultz and her husband, Gene, all of Sioux City; a brother, Robert LaCroix and his wife, Mick of Denver, Colo; two sisters, Jeannette Dik of Sioux City and Delores Worrell and her husband, Archie of Smithland, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Vicky and her husband, Randy Williams, Jim and Bob LaCroix, Laura Mesz, Michele and her husband, John Pucelik, David Mesz, Patty and her husband, Kevin Hedemark, Bryan Mesz and his wife, Christa, Kim and her husband, Dan Howard, Daniel Schultz and his wife, Maria and Richard Schultz; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond LaCroix; and two sisters, Leona Lamoureux and Genevieve Fielden.

Pallbearers will be Dan and Rich Schultz, Jim and Bob LaCroix and Dave and Bryan Mesz.
