Valentina LaBane

April 13, 1922 — June 4, 2007

Valentina LaBane of Sioux City entered into eternal rest Monday, June 4, 2007, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.

Val was born April 13, 1922, in Sioux City, to Peter and Nellie (Kunowac) Maximona. She was baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church and confirmed at Morningside Lutheran Church. She graduated from Central High School and attended business college.

Later, she married Samuel LaBane. She worked for the Armour Packing Company , a commission firm at the Sioux City Stockyards and retired from the Woodbury County Clerks Office Records Department.

She attended Morningside Lutheran Church and was active with the Morning Glories and church circles. She also belonged to the Girls of 68, the Stockettes and the St. Luke's Auxiliary.

She had a zest for life and lived each day to its fullest. A very kind and generous person, she was always thinking of others. She enjoyed the Sioux City Symphony, gardening and cooking for her family. She was an avid bowler with many leagues. She loved her family and they were the most important.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, April and Gerry Moore of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Deborah Ann and Dewaine Anderson of Sioux City; a son, Scott LaBane of Sioux City; grandchildren, Brooke and her husband, Clint Craig, Jennifer Anderson and her fiance, Jim Brown, and Andrew Moore; great-grandchildren, Madison and Trevor Craig; a brother and his wife, Peter and Bobbi Maximona Jr. of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Edwards; a brother, Gus Nemitz; and a nephew, Jeff Maximona.

She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
