JACKSON, Neb. -- Delphine M. Kuehl, 96, of Jackson passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006, at her residence following a brief illness, surrounded by her family and extended family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Richard Whiteing officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at South Sioux City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Delphine was born July 15, 1910, in Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of John and Mary (Morris) Merchant. She grew up around Newcastle and moved with her parents to Jackson. She graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in 1929.
She married Forrest "Frosty" Kuehl on July 10, 1934, in Jackson. He died Jan. 16, 1977, in Sioux City. Delphine and Frosty farmed in the Jackson area for many years. She also assisted Dr. Magirl with delivering babies for more than 30 years. After she retired from farming in 1980, Delphine cooked for Jackson Public Schools for about 10 years.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Delphine enjoyed crocheting, gardening and canning.
Survivors include a son, Joe Kuehl and his wife, Diana of Jackson; a daughter, Mary Meister and her husband, Al of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, Ronald Kreegar Jr., Kimberly Conway and her husband, Tom, Michael Kreegar and his wife, Carla, Wade Kuehl and his wife, Tamara, Teresa Springer and her husband, Tim, Lynn Eifert and her husband, Chad, Jen Symens and her special friend, Jason Benedix, Amanda Peyton and her husband, Travis, Brenda Huls and her husband, Corey, Amanda McKee and her husband, Chris, Michelle Meister and her special friend, Tim, Rebecca Meister and Heather Meister; 29 great-grandchildren; and many special nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Ed, Ernest, Marvin and Larry Merchant; a sister, Mary Gill; a son-in-law, Ervin Simmons; and a grandson, John David.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Gill, Pat and Joe Merchant, Wade Kuehl, Michael Kreegar, Chad Eifert, Corey Huls, Tom Conway and Tim Springer.
