Leslie Kruse, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Buss Johnson Post 316. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Mr. Kruse was born May 10, 1921, in West Holman Township 6, Osceola County, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Nannie (Voss) Kruse. He graduated from Little Rock (Iowa) High School in 1939. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
He married Miriam L. Evans on Feb. 14, 1946, in Sibley, Iowa. To this union, four children were born. He later married Marvelyn J. Rickabaugh. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2002.
He began his working career in farming. He later served for a brief time as the U.S. postmaster in Little Rock before his career with the State of Iowa Department of Revenue.
He was a master gardener and very involved in volunteering. He also enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post 316.
He is survived by four children, Karen (Warren) Christensen of Harvard, Neb., Gretchen (Ronnie) Venn of Deltona, Fla., Thomas (Marian) Kruse of Circle Pines, Minn., and Teresa (Mark) Woodworth of Geneseo, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Schultz of Sibley, Iowa, and Tillie VanAnken of Little Rock, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Lois Harward of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marvelyn; four brothers, one in infancy, Harvey, Albert and John; and five sisters, Katherine, Margaret, Ida, Carrie and Elma.
Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church or the Friends of Latham Park.
