SIOUX CITY -- Mary Korter, 92, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 3:45 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Mary was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Cairo, Egypt, the daughter of Bochor and Matilda (Gaon) Bitran. Matilda passed away when Mary was a child, so she was raised by Bochor and Joyce Bitran. She came to the United States in the early 1950s and lived in Hibbing, Minn., for a short time before coming to Sioux City.
She married David Korter on Sept. 20, 1970, in Sioux City. He died Feb. 24, 1997, in Sioux City. She worked for the Jewish Federation for many years in Sioux City.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom.
Survivors include a brother and his wife, Joseph and Deborah Bitran of Flushing, N.Y.; numerous nieces, a nephew, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jacques; and three sisters, Violet, Claire and Judith.
