Ethel C. Kohler, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Bickford Cottage following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Ethel Catherine was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Peter J. and Teresa (Ortner) Wolterman. She had been a resident of Sioux City since 1942.
She married Willard George Kohler on Oct. 19, 1944, in Danbury, Iowa. He died Dec. 5, 1998 in Sioux City. She was employed with Zenith Corp. and St. Joseph Hospital.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Her grandkids were her mission and in earlier years, she was an avid bowler.
Survivors include four children and their spouses, Lynn and Ron Sanger of Louisiana, Gary and Debbie Kohler of Guthrie, Okla., Debra and Tom Heck of Sioux City and Rochelle and Terry Heck of Climbing Hill, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Pete and Lois Wolterman of Danbury, Iowa; five sisters, Kathleen Kinsella of Estherville, Iowa, Leota Schreiber of Mapleton, Iowa, Vera Petersen of Mapleton, Ardy Baker of Quimby, Iowa, and Kay Ehrhorn of Chicago, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Donald Uhl of Mapleton, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Michele Newburn, Jennifer Beach, Corey Heck, Brent Sanger, Stacey Hattermann, Matthew Heck and Samuel Kohler; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Gayle Jean; a brother, Marcellus Wolterman; and a sister, Lois Uhl.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
