Darlene Mae Koch, 78, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Indian Hills Hospice Nursing Home from cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, following the luncheon at the church at approximately 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Darlene was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Sioux City, to Albert C. and Ruth C. (Myers) Miller. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City with the class of 1947.
She was married to Edgar Koch on Feb. 23, 1947, in Sioux City. Mr. Koch died Oct. 5, 1988. Darlene was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She was a housewife, homemaker, mother and friend to many. She dedicated 40 years to serving the U.S. Navy and reserve through her husband.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, St. Luke's Auxiliary Legion and Canduels for Shriners Widows. She was an avid Hawkeye fan. Darlene will be missed by her family, friends and especially her children. She was a person full of grace and humor with a true sense of the importance of family.
Survivors include her children, Dianna (Mike) Havenstrite of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Robert (Karen) Koch of Grand Prairie, Texas, LuAnn Galvin of Tucson, Ariz., Karla (Bob) Roupe of Crawley, Texas, and Gerald (Linda) Koch of Sioux City; a sister, Gen Evans of Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Koch, her husband, Edgar Koch; and a grandson, James Havenstrite.
