Betty Kloeppel

Yvonne Betty Kloeppel, 83, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty was born April 16, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Glen D. and Marguerite M. (Suter) Houser. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident. She graduated from Central High School and Wayne State Teachers College. She taught school in Ireton, Iowa, and Winnebago Neb., for a brief time.

She married Eugene G. Kloeppel on June 8, 1947, in Sioux City. She later started substitute teaching in Sioux City until she became a teacher's associate at Webster, Bancroft and Irving Elementary Schools. She loved working with children. She retired at the age of 65. Eugene preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2003, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She also was active in the PTA for many years. She was a member of Irving Retired Teachers Association. She especially cherished time spent with her family and friends. She considered the residents and staff at Northern Hills Assisted Living as part of her extended family. Her warm, caring personality was a blessing to everyone.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Gayle and Robert Stone and Yvonne and Terry Church, all of Sioux City; a son and his wife, James and Darlene Kloeppel of Urbana, Ill.; a brother and his wife, the Rev. William and Chris Houser of Coupeville, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Rick Stone, Jeff Church, Mike Stone, Chris Stone, Kimberly Church, Chris and Tiffany Kloeppel, Jonathan Kloeppel, Betty Nicole Carroll and Thomas Kloeppel; two great-grandsons; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Rick Stone, Jeff Church, Mike Stone, Chris Stone, Kimberly Church and Chris Kloeppel.

Memorials may be directed in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church.
