David Kleber

October 3, 1945 — March 28, 2008

David Kleber, 62, of McCook Lake died Friday, March 28, 2008, at his residence with his family by his side, following a lengthy, courageous, dignified battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday April 1, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

David was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Sioux City, to Bob and Mary (Conley) Kleber. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, S.D., and went to trade school for journey carpentry.

He was married to Mary Feese on Sept. 11, 1965, in St. Peter's Church at Jefferson. When David wasn't fishing, he spent his time being a carpenter for Klinger Construction, but he was really a farmer at heart.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carpentry Union 948 and National Brotherhood of Carpenters, a past member of the Eagles Club and Knights of Columbus. He was a Boy Scout leader. Besides farming, fishing and carpentry, David loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids who were his whole world. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and watching Kansas City football. He was best known for his sense of humor and practical jokes he played on people.

David was truly a selfless person, always putting everyone else's needs before his own; even his last days on earth were spent worrying about others. The memory of David will live forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. To say David will be missed is truly an understatement.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kleber of McCook Lake; three daughters, Tami Techen and special friend, Randy of Storm Lake, Iowa, Tonya (Clint) McKewon of McCook Lake, and Tina (Josh) Cobbs of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, D.J., Jackson, Roni, Nathan, Nicole, Ethan, Noah and Sydney; four sisters, Doni LaFleur, Janet Girard, Beth Ford and Dianne Raynor; and a brother, Mike Kleber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.

Pallbearers will be D.J. Budavich, Nathan McKewon, Ethan VanAsselt, Brad Girard, Robby Raynor, Ed Fravel, Mike O'Connor and Larry Allen.
