Shirley E. Kistner, 83, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at the Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff following a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Shirley was born March 8, 1926, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Harry and Mildred (Sherwood) Lyle. She graduated from Morningside College in 1947 with a teaching degree. She worked as a math teacher for years and later taught fourth and fifth graders.
Shirley married Howard D. Kistner in May of 1955 in Reno, Nev. Howard passed away on Sept. 23, 1985, in Sioux City. Shirley enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Scott Kistner of Sioux City; two brothers, Bill Lyle and his wife Muriel of Sioux City, and Max Lyle and his wife Sharon of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Ferrari of Dakota Dunes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Jan Lyle.
