SIOUX CITY -- Dennis Kirk, 61, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital comforted by family.

Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Marines Corps. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Dennis was born June 22, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas, to Ralph and Yvette (Lavirade) Kirk. He graduated from Castle Park High School in Temecula, Calif., before enlisting in the U.S. Marines Corps in 1966. He served overseas in Vietnam before receiving a Good Conduct Medal in 1968, the National Defense Service Medal, and he received an honorable discharge in November 1970.

Dennis relocated to Sioux City, where he married Vickie Anderson on Nov. 10, 1973. To this union three daughters were born. Dennis worked in sales, carrying the sales manager title primarily in the wholesale automotive chemical industry.

Dennis was very much a family man, dearly loving his grandchildren, children and wife, Vickie. He enjoyed collecting coins, always lending a helping hand, and could often be found enjoying Farmtown on Facebook. Dennis was a tremendous gardener, and enjoyed his membership to St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Vickie of Sioux City; daughters, Nicky Ofert and her husband, Mike of Moville, Iowa, and their children, Joci, Jake, Lillian, Wyatt, and Ava, Tonya Christopher and her husband, Ryan of Corona, Calif., and Ashley Kirk of Sioux City; mother, Yvette Kirk of Temecula, Calif.; brothers, Rene Kirk and his wife, Kathy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mark Kirk of Fallbrook, Calif., and Norman Kirk of Julian, Calif.; sister, Vickie Christian and her husband, Fred of Temecula; sisters-in-law, Beckie Fick and her husband, Mick, Jamie Peiper and Stacy Haldahl and her husband, Darin, all of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Gene Anderson Jr. and his wife, Anne of Sioux City; and in-laws Eugene and Lola Anderson of Sioux City.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Kirk; and brother, Terry Lynn Kirk.
