SIOUX CITY -- Robert M. Kingsley, 80, of Sioux City died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bob was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Fred and Alyce (Dougherty) Kingsley. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He graduated from Central High School. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1951, and served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the 185th Air National Guard for more than 30 years, retiring in 1994.

He married Blanche Birkes on March 18, 1951. He was employed as a printer with the Sioux City Journal for 18 years. He was a deputy with the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department for 13 years and was a security officer at the Federal Building for 14 years. He had also worked for the city of Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the American Legion. He was a junior National Rifle Association instructor.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche of Sioux City; a daughter, Robyn Hodgins and her husband, Emmett of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Erin Hodgins and Blake Hodgins and his fiancee, Megan; a son, Kirk Kingsley of Ireton, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Edna Kingsley of Sterling, Colo., and her children, Ruben, Dakota and Cheyenne Kingsley; and a brother, William Kingsley and his wife, Barbara of Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, David.

Pallbearers will be Jim and Don Birkes, Al Strugeon, Glenn Parrett, Frank Kofka and John Sanders.
