Shirley M. Kincanon

SIOUX CITY -- Shirley Mae Kincanon of Sioux City died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home with family present.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Shirley was born June 1, 1924, in Sioux City, to Florence and James W. Thomas. She was raised by her grandparents, Fred and Anna Stewart. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux City in 1943.

She married Ray H. Kincanon in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 1945. To this union was born a daughter, Lynne Marie Redden.

She worked as a bookkeeper until she retired. While in Washington, D.C., she worked for the Department of the Navy. Following her marriage, she and Ray moved to south San Francisco. She worked for Dubuque Packing and Bank of America in California. In 1955, the couple returned to Sioux City. In Sioux City, she worked for Hoak Oldsmobile and Motor Parts Central. She retired from Motor Parts Central in 1986.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Mike Redden of Sioux City; two grandsons, Chad Redden and Greg Redden of Sioux City; two sisters, Florence Blair and her husband, Clair Blair of Sioux City and Leona Simmons of Danbury, Iowa; 11 nieces and nephews and their spouses; and Ray's son, Gene and his wife, Mary Ellen of Norfolk, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her husband, Ray Kincanon on April 29, 1986.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Tom Blair, Brad Blair, Matt Blair, Scott Simmons, Kevin Simmons and Wesley Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, Terry Duzik, Laurie Allner, Julie Peifer, Carline Hamann and Barb Moser.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface students attending Bishop Heelan.
