Florence A. Kerr

Florence A. Kerr, 92, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Florence Alberta Masteller Kerr was born in the family home on Ross Street on the west side of Sioux City on April 12, 1915. Her parents were Charles E. and Minnie (Yeager) Masteller. She was the youngest of their five children, who all preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. Florence attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in January 1933. She completed the course of study at National Business Training School in Sioux City in March 1934. She worked in the office at Cudahy Packing Company for six years and retired after 23 years from Sears Credit Office in Sioux City on April 1, 1978.

Florence married Lawrence B. "Bud" Kerr at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha on April 27, 1941. Mr. Kerr passed away Nov. 12, 1981.

She was a member of Club 33, AARP, the DAV Auxiliary and the Sears Retirees Association. Florence loved gardening. She was a very thoughtful person who enjoyed sending cards and calling people. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and she will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two sons and their spouses, Lawrence E. "Larry" Kerr and his wife, Carole of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and James R. "Jim" Kerr and his wife, Lola of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Mark Kerr of Albuquerque, N.M., Angela Kerr of Denver, Colo., David Kerr of Arlington, Va., and Craig Kerr of Lincoln, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. Kerr; her parents; her sisters, Gladys Searls and Louise Boyce; and her brothers, John and Clarence Masteller.

Pallbearers will be Craig Kerr, Bob Hackett, Josh Hackett, Duane Johnson, John Johnson and Tom Masteller.
