SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Patrick M. Kavanaugh, 55, of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital, after suffering a heart attack on Monday.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Marina Inn Convention Center in South Sioux City, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers MORNINGSIDE Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Pat was born March 17, 1954, in Sioux City, to Bernie and Helen (Hogan) Kavanaugh. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1972. He attended Northeast Community College, where he wrestled and received his associate degree in business. Pat had lived and worked in Lincoln and Omaha for several years before returning to South Sioux City, where he started his Siouxland Lawn Care business in 1988. He later finished his teaching degree at Wayne State College and worked on the faculty and coaching staff at South Sioux City Community Schools ever since. He married Maurine Corrin on Feb. 7, 1987, in Omaha.
Pat spent all of his free time attending his daughters' activities and helping the youth of South Sioux City. He looked forward to each hunting season with his friends and dogs, Chet and Hunter. Pat also loved fishing, golfing and Nebraska football. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Nebraska Coaches Association, the South Sioux City Booster Club and the local Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Maurine; two daughters, Emily and Kacie Jo; his mother, Helen Kavanaugh; a brother, Mike Kavanaugh, all of South Sioux City; and a sister, Linda Fowler and her husband, Ray of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard; and his grandparents.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Mike Robinette, Marty Hohenstein, Tim Brende, Rick Comstock and Steve Gonshorowski.
In lieu of flowers, a new scholarship fund has been established at Siouxland National Bank for later distribution in honor of Pat.
