Anita M. Katz

Anita Madeline (Brenner) Katz, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at her home in her sleep.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. today at Congregation Beth Shalom. Anita was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Joseph and Dora Brenner.

She married Aaron Louis Katz on Feb. 17, 1944, at Scott Airfield, Ill. Anita lived in New York City until 1944, at air bases around the U.S. from 1944 to 1946, Des Moines, Iowa, from 1947 to 1951, and in Sioux City from 1951 to the present. She worked at various accounting firms until 1950 and managed her husband's medical practice from 1950 to 2000.

She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and had been a member of Shaare Zion Synagogue. Anita enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, entertaining, with Thanksgiving dinners being her specialty. Later in life, she enjoyed reading novels with mystery, Western and Jewish themes.

Survivors include a son, Dr. David J. Katz and his wife, Dr. Glynnis B. Ingall of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Naomi Katz of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ruth Whiddon and her husband, James of Edinburg, Texas; two brothers and their wives, Stan and Adrienne Brenner of Long Island, N.Y., and Bill and Ruth Brenner of North Miami Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Jonah Katz, Ezra Katz, Aryeh Katz and Lydia Katz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Aaron Katz.

Pallbearers will be Jonah Katz, Ezra Katz, Aryeh Katz, Lydia Katz, James Whiddon and Dr. Ronald Lorig. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Benzoni, Dr. Noni Benzoni-O'Shea, Gordon Lebowich, Jan Lebowich, Ruth Lebowich, Bob Rehal, Bethany Gordon, Dr. Steve Gordon and Steve Palash.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Katz' name to Congregation Beth Shalom.
