Vasilios Karydakis, 73, of Sioux City died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Hallmark Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. George Pappas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. today, with a Trisagion service at 5:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Mr. Karydakis was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Lidoriki, Greece, the son of John and Maria (Lakafosis) Karydakis. He served in the Army in Greece. He came to Sioux City from Greece 38 years ago. He worked for Continental Baking Co. for 15 years.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Survivors include a brother and his wife, Alex and Kiki Karras of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Anna and Taki Hayianis of Athens, Greece; two nephews, Dean Karras of Sioux City and John Karras of Chicago, Ill.; two nieces, Mary Valianatos and Kiki Hayianis, both of Athens, Greece; five grandnephews; and three grandnieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be John and Dean Karras, Tim Margellos, Roger Schultz, George Margeas and George Tsiobanos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
