Stanley F. Karpuk, 91, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Stanley was born Feb. 25, 1915, in Sioux City, to Paul and Anna (Bernick) Karpuk. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
He married Ilene Horsley on Jan. 23, 1943, in Abilene, Texas. She died May 6, 2001, in Sioux City. Stanley worked as a federal meat inspector for a short time and then began his career with the U.S. Post Office. He worked there until he retired in 1977.
He was a member of Church of the Nativity.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Karpuk and his wife, Chong of Crestview, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Casady and her husband, Carl of Sioux City; a brother, Joseph Karpuk and his wife, Mary Ann of Sioux City; two sisters, Helen Kane and Anne Peters, both of Sioux City; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ilene; and a brother, Edward.
Pallbearers will be Joe, Phil, Fred and Ted Karpuk, Mike Kane and Carl Casady.
