SIOUX CITY -- Clarence A. Kamradt, 90, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy battle with stroke related dementia.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Perry-Liberty Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Clarence was born May 27, 1918, on the family farm near Adaville, Iowa, the son of Otto F. and Helena (Johnson) Kamradt. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school.
He married Etta Houts in 1957 and they adopted their son, Kenny. They were later divorced. On March 3, 1990, he married Barbara Schuttpelz.
He moved to Sioux City and held various jobs over the years. He was a garbage contractor for the city of Sioux City for several years. He also was a mechanic at several garages in the area including the Red Feather Garage.
He was a longtime member of Riverside Lutheran Church. He helped lead the congregational procession from the old church to the new building for its dedication. His main hobby was buying, fixing and then reselling vehicles. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Sioux City; his children, Ken Kamradt and his wife, Teresa of Sioux City, Michael Schuttpelz of South Sioux City, Martin Schuttpelz and his special friend, Rena Rice of South Sioux City, Merlin Schuttpelz of Sioux City, Matthew Schuttpelz and his wife, Laura of Snyder, Neb., and Marlene and her husband, Scott Smith of Sioux City; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marvin Schuttpelz; and a sister, Ester.
Pallbearers will be Glen Houts, Glen Udell, Roger Nicolls, Gene Jacobson, Harry Solomon and Harold Burcham. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Knecht, Ron "Butch" Kamradt and Mike Kamradt.
The family would like to thank the Sunrise Retirement Community and Hospice of Siouxland for all of the care they gave to Clarence.
